Park Cleanup Sat. 9-10 am, Little Library being installed, & Lone Oak Sidewalk moving forward4/18/2017 Green Hills Park is participating in the Mayor's Spring Clean at 9-10 a.m. on Saturday, April 22. Join us at 9:00 am that morning, to spruce up Green Hills Park. There is not an overwhelming amount of trash, but alot of stuff makes its way to the bushes and borders. Big thank you to the folks at Fox Donut Den and the Starbucks near Pier One, who have graciously agreed to provide some sweet treats and coffee. https://www.facebook.com/events/715643185264384/ More news about the park:
Save the date:
This year's Green Hills Festival will be held on September 16, 2017. Like last year, we'll have vendors, food trucks, and a movie. If you have ideas for new vendors, activities, or wish to become a sponsor, please let us know. More news about the park:
Belmont Park Terrace sidewalk announced - Councilmember Russ Pulley has just announced a new sidewalk project on Belmont Park Terrace. It will run along the park between Arden Place and Lone Oak Rd. He does not have further details yet about the design or timeline. This is obviously great news for the Park. Hopefully we can work on incorporating a crosswalk from Castleman Drive, as part of the project.
In other good news, Councilmember Angie Henderson has introduced a sidewalk ordinance that will require sidewalks (or an in lieu fee) for the teardown/infill houses that are so prevalent in our neighborhood. These projects have not required sidewalks in the past, because they are single or duplex projects that do not subdivide the lot. More details, and a flowchart showing when sidewalks would be required, can be found at this link: http://www.walkbikenashville.org/sidewalkbill493 Russ Pulley is a co-sponsor. You can let any of the other councilmembers know that you want this bill to pass by clicking here: https://www.nashville.gov/metro-council/contact-council-members.aspx Councilmember Henderson will be speaking on her legislation at the next Alliance for Green Hills community meeting - on January 11, 2017 at 8:00am, at the Hampton Inn in Green Hills. Status of Lone Oak Sidewalk between Overhill and Shackleford- you may have noticed that the right of way has been staked. The design phase is complete. The project is in the engineering phase now. Construction is likely in early 2017. Other happenings in the Park - Metro Parks has agreed to work with us on placing a sign to mark the distance for the walking path. And, the Cumberland River Compact has applied for a grant that would benefit the no-mow zone in the Park (The Park is in the Brown Creek watershed). Good things are happening in our neighborhood! Here's hoping that the park (and you!) have a great 2017. What a great crowd! Thanks to everyone who came by to enjoy the vendors, watch the outdoor movie, comment on the proposed park improvements, make a donation or purchase a t-shirt. Scroll down to see a few pictures from the event. If you would like a Friends bumper sticker or t-shirt ($20), it's not too late. Email friendsofghpark@gmail.com

*We live in an exciting city that's becoming more walkable and bikeable. *We live in a great neighborhood near a beautiful park. *We have a plan to improve the Park, so there will be a longer walking path and natural play areas (and we've already gotten a water fountain and are top of the list for tennis court resurfacing). *We have the first ever Green Hills Park Festival on September 17 from 4-9pm. More info here: https://www.facebook.com/events/255529468158391/ The festival is free to attend but we'll be raising $ and accepting donations for our neighborhood park. Can you make a donation today to support our beautiful park? Donations are tax deductible and will go directly toward the improvements. Donating now will get the ball rolling so that we can show festival attendees that we're on our way to making the improvements a reality. And can you forward this message/post to your friends, so they will know about the festival? Thank you.
We'll start at 4pm with games, food and drink. As dusk falls, we'll use a giant screen to show the Pixar movie "Inside Out." Here is a list of Festival activities, vendors & sponsors so far:

Everybody knows that the tennis courts in Green Hills Park are sorely in need of resurfacing. The Parks Dept. has announced that they will be resurfaced soon! There is not a certain date, but it may be as soon as this summer. Please take this survey! The Parks Dept. is working on its master plan for all the parks in Davidson County. Tell them what you want more of in our parks. For example, Green Hills does not have a single dog park. It is not connected by foot or bike to nearby parks, like Radnor Lake or Sevier Park. Make your voice heard! http://www.nashville.gov/Parks-and-Recreation/Plan-To-Play.aspx Fyi regarding the water fountain - Parks has been informed that the top fountain is not working. They have put in a repair order. They say that last time, balloons had been stuffed down the drain. Hopefully, it will be working again soon.
