Friends of Green Hills Park
Here are a few newspaper articles showing how John Trotwood Moore's property, named Mistletoe Lodge and Arden Place, became a park and school in 1968.  There is also information on the shumard oak, which stood on the school property from approximately 1800-2020.

The Shumard Oak was located near the south east corner of the J.T. Moore campus.  The Nashville Tree Foundation estimates that it was well over 200 years old.  It was a winner in the 1992 Big Old Tree Contest.  At that time its measurements were: 205“ circumference, 80’ high, 81’ crown spread.

PictureThis photo was taken after the May 3, 2020 derecho, when straight line winds up to 80 mph came through Nashville. The website for the Battle of Nashville Trust noted that the tree was a witness to the fighting along the Confederate line just to its south on December 16, 1864.
