New trees planted in Green Hills Park- footbridge needed

4/25/2016

Thank you to Macy's and the Nashville Tree Foundation for the 10 trees planted on Earth Day in Green Hills Park.  Macy's paid for the trees and provided the labor; Nashville Tree Foundation helped them select our park and provided expertise in planting.  They look great!  They are bur oaks, nuttal oaks, and bald cypress.

The trees will be especially nice for the benches by the new wetlands  area- where ducks were recently spotted!

Other news:
  • The park needs a footbridge - to cross from the new gravel path by the tennis courts, over the wetlands, to the new benches.  Does anyone know someone handy who would like to build or donate one?  The Parks Dept. had an Eagle Scout lined up to do this project, but the project fell through. If you are interested or have ideas, please, email friendsofghpark@gmail.com.
  • We're having a logo contest!  Your logo could be featured on our webpage and perhaps on t-shirts and bumper stickers.  The logo must be submitted electronically to friendsofghpark@gmail.com by June 1, 2016.  We are looking for something simple and upbeat.
  • Metro Sidewalk/Bike path plan - fill out this survey and mark on this map
Metro is updating its sidewalk and bike plan - and you can make your voice heard through this short community survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RNHG7L5  Also, please mark the sidewalks and bike paths that you want on this interactive map: http://wikimapping.com/wikimap/Nashville-Davidson-County-Strategic-Plan-for-Sidewalks-and-Bikeways.html. It allows you to draw lines showing where sidewalks are needed.
  • A start of a sidewalk on
    Belmont Park Terrace
Many of you may have noticed that a sidewalk is being poured on the west side of Belmont Park Terrace, between Lone Oak and Lone Oak Circle.  This is being built as part of the Jamesborough Place stormwater project.  It is a great start to what is needed all along Belmont Park Terrace. Hopefully Metro can soon fund a sidewalk all along Belmont Park Terrace - it was identified in Nashville Next as one of the highest priority sidewalks needed in Green Hills.
  • The Lone Oak sidewalk that will run from Overhill to Shackleford is already deep in the planning stages.  Councilman Pulley recently announced that construction should be able to start this summer!
  • Bike to Work Day:  May 20, 2016 @ 7:10 a.m
This year's Green Hills route for Bike to Work Day will start in Green Hills Park at 7:10 a.m. Meet us in the park and ride downtown to meet at the courthouse for bagels and coffee.  Here is the map of the route. (We basically take Belmont Blvd. all the way downtown).  Can you join us?
  • Coming soon: We will be announcing a festival in the park, to showcase proposed improvements & get public feedback and input on projects. There will likely be food, drinks, games & music to enjoy.  Stay tuned!
  • We we will also be setting up some committees, like fundraising and festival committees.  If you are interested in joining or heading up a committee, please let us know.

Love those trees! And that piece of sidewalk! Good work! Some of my fellow Arden Place neighbors and I are interested in planting a cluster of crepe myrtles on the north side of the sidewalk (just above the wetland area). Who is the "go to" person for such planting proposals?
Thanks, Anne

Congratulations on the new plantings, especially the trees! Please remind the Maint. div. of Metro Parks to WATER the new trees regularly for the next month or so!
